Camille Cortinas Biography

Camille Cortinas was born in Dallas, Texas, and her grandmother, a migrant farmworker, was her first musical influence. She was taught lovely Spanish folk songs by her grandmother, which charmed her and started her on a musical road. She got her first guitar for her 16th birthday and begged her elder brother to teach her how to play it. Camille spent time honing her songwriting and guitar abilities in Italy and France. When she returned to Texas, she began to consider the possibility of forming a band. The band dream, however, was cut short when, at the age of 21, physicians discovered a hole in her heart, necessitating open-heart surgery. Camille formed the band Fishing for Comets after a year of recuperation and new music creation. They soon rose to prominence, receiving three consecutive nominations from the Dallas Observer Music Awards for Best Folk Acoustic Band and Best Female Vocalist, as well as winning Best Folk Acoustic Band two years in a row. Camille has dabbled in the world of jingles. Hot Pockets, Starbucks, Dixie Cups, Payless, Hershey's, and Grocery Outlet are just a few of the brands she's featured in ads for. In jingles for Methodist Health Systems, Texas Lottery, and TXU Electric, her unique voice is instantly recognizable. Camille's solo album "Taken Apart" was released in April 2011. Eric Neal, an award-winning instrumentalist who played virtually all of the instruments on the album, recorded and produced it. Mark Hallman of Congress House Studios mixed and mastered the album, which was recorded in their home studio. Camille was highlighted as an emerging artist on the April 20, 2011 edition of Music City Roots, where the formal album release took place. “To share the stage with Jim Lauderdale and know that luminaries like the Doobie Brothers, Ricky Scaggs, and Brandi Carlile have all performed here makes this a dream come true.” STARBUCKS, who requested three tracks from the album for overhead play in shops across the country, expressed interest in the record in July 2011. The Dallas Morning News and Texas Music Magazine have both praised the CD. Camille and Eric, newlyweds, conduct performances for children and families with their Band of Puppets, which Eric designed and performs. The puppets have appeared in videos with Camille and other artists on PBS's Art & Seek and in numerous family film festivals. Camille's "Big Yellow Bowl" is indelibly unforgettable, highly entertaining, and rapidly gaining popularity online. Camille's musical approach draws on personal experiences and narrative to establish a genuine connection that resonates with both young and old audiences.
