Governor Chris Christie nominated Cami Anderson for the position of State District Superintendent for Newark Public Schools in May of 2011, where she is accountable for increasing student success for more than 40,000 pupils. She was the Superintendent of Alternative High Schools and Programs for the New York City Department of Education before joining NPS (District 79).
Anderson was also the executive director of Teach for America in New York, where she helped to establish Teach for America Week. She was the Chief Program Officer for New Leaders for New Schools, which was named one of the most effective principal training programs in the country by Fast Company and Harvard Business School, among others.
