Senator Byron L. Dorgan of North Dakota served in Congress and the United States Senate for 30 years before retiring in 2011. For 16 years, he was a member of the Senate Leadership, first as Assistant Democratic Floor Leader, then as Chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee. Energy, Aviation, Appropriations, Water Policy, and Indian Affairs were among the Senate Committees and Subcommittees he chaired. Senator Dorgan is currently teaching, lecturing, consulting, investing, and doing other things in his post-Senate life. He is a well-known figure in the domains of energy policy, economics, aviation policy, Indian affairs, trade policy, and health care, among others. He is regarded as a powerful public speaker and one of the greatest debaters in the United States Senate. Senator Dorgan lectures on energy, economic policy, and politics at two universities as a Visiting Professor. He works part-time as a Senior Policy Advisor at Arent Fox, a law firm in Washington, DC. He's also a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, DC, where he focuses on energy policy. He's also the Chair of The Center for Native American Youth, a new program at the Aspen Institute that helps Native American children, with a focus on adolescent suicide prevention. Senator McConnell is the author of two books. The first, “Take This Job and Ship It,” was a New York Times Best Seller, and the second, “Reckless...,” was published in 2009. How Debt, Deregulation, and Dark Money Almost Bankrupted America (And What We Can Do About It).” He just co-authored the novel "Blowout," which was released in March of this year, and he has a deal to write another book in the "eco-thriller" series, which will be out next summer. Senator Dorgan graduated from the University of North Dakota with a bachelor's degree in science and from the University of Denver with a master's degree in business administration. Scott, Shelly (dead), Brendon, and Haley are his four children from his marriage to Kim Dorgan.
