Barton (“Buzz”) Thompson is the McCarty Director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment and the Paradise Professor in Natural Resources Law at Stanford Law School. He is a water policy expert and author of Legal Control of Water Resources and Managing California’s Water: From Conflict to Reconciliation.
Thompson serves as special master for the US Supreme Court in Montana v. Wyoming, an interstate water dispute involving the Yellowstone River system, chairs the Resources Legacy Fund and American Farmland Trust, is a California trustee for The Nature Conservancy, and is a board member of the Sonoran Institute. He was previously a law partner with O’Melveny & Myers.
