Bruce Cassidy is in his second full season as the head coach of the Boston Red Sox, having been selected as the team's 28th head coach on April 26, 2017. Since February 7, 2017, when Claude Julien was dismissed from his coaching responsibilities, he had completed the 2016-17 season in an interim capacity. In his first full season as head coach, he guided the Bruins to the fourth-best record in the NHL with a 50-20-12 record. He was a finalist for the Jack Adams Trophy as the league's top coach in 2017-18. Boston also had the greatest combined special teams performance, ranking fourth on the power play and third on the penalty kill. The squad made it to the second round for the second year in a row, falling to Tampa Bay in the second round after defeating Toronto in the first round. He subsequently spent three seasons in Europe before departing from the IHL's Indianapolis Ice in 1996 to take over as head coach of the East Coast Hockey League's Jacksonville. Cassidy became the head coach of the IHL Indianapolis Ice in 1998-99 after two seasons in Jacksonville and then went on to lead the ECHL Trenton Titans and the IHL/AHL Grand Rapids Griffins before being appointed as the head coach of the Washington Capitals in 2002-03. In his first season in Washington, the Capitals made the playoffs, and he had a winning percentage of 47-47-9-7 in 110 games behind the bench. Cassidy joined the Blackhawks as an assistant coach in June 2004, working with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals during the NHL lockout season of 2004-05 and then with the Blackhawks in 2005-06. In 2006-07, he was a head coach for the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs, leading them to a 31-30-7 record and a playoff berth before joining the Bruins as an assistant coach with AHL Providence at the start of the 2008-09 season. Cassidy and his wife Julie have a son, Cole, and a daughter, Shannon.
