Bruce Beck is an experienced journalist who works for News 4 in New York. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, he is the station's Sports Anchor, and he also submits sports reports for other newscasts during the week. Beck won a New York Emmy for Outstanding Sports Anchor in 2006. He was also named New York State Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association in 2007, 2008, and 2010. He's a dynamic sportscaster who's covered Super Bowl XLII, the World Series, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the US Open Tennis Championship, the US Open Golf Championship, the NCAA Final Four, the Kentucky Derby, and 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008 Olympic Games for News 4 New York. Beck was also picked to give the 2009 Commencement address at St. John's University's Staten Island Campus on May 16. He will also get an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the university. Beck has hosted Mike'd Up, News 4 New York's Sunday Night Sports Show, Coach Tom Coughlin's Toyota Giants Report, and Coach Greg Schiano's Rutgers Report. Beck has hosted and contributed to several WNBC-TV programs, including the live coverage of the ING New York City Marathon, the Belmont Stakes, the US Open Golf Championship, and Glory Days, which aired before New York Yankees postseason games. Beck is the host of Sportsnet New York's weekly Rutgers University basketball and football programs. He worked as a studio anchor for NBA-TV from 2000 through 2008. Beck presented Sportstalk and Sports Images on CN8, the Comcast Network, from 1994 to 1997. While announcing college basketball games for CBS Sports, he was also the play-by-play voice of Atlantic 10 Conference Basketball and Hofstra University Football. He hosted CBS' coverage of the Hambletonian and ESPN's coverage of the American Championship Harness Series. Beck was a play-by-play announcer and host for Showtime's Championship Boxing, as well as one of the first to call the UFC's blow-by-blow. Beck was a staff announcer for the MSG Network from 1982 through 1994. He hosted the station's coverage of the Knicks, Rangers, and Yankees, among his numerous responsibilities. He worked as a play-by-play announcer for college football and basketball, as well as professional and Golden Gloves boxing and tennis. The Millrose Games, the Virginia Slims Championship, the National Horse Show, and the Lou Carnesecca Show were among the events he staged. Beck and sportscaster Ian Eagle organize a Sports Broadcasting Camp at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center in Montclair, New Jersey, every summer. The camp covers the basics of broadcasting and includes lectures by well-known broadcasters. Beck won a New York Emmy Award for Outstanding On-Camera Achievement in Sports Reporting in 1999. He's won eight New York Sports Emmys, one Mid-Atlantic Sports Emmy, and three national Cable Ace Awards in total. Beck earned a bachelor of science degree from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, in 1978. With his wife and two boys, he presently resides in Scarsdale, New York.
