Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, both vocalists, and songwriters form the country music duo, Brooks & Dunn. Brooks & Dunn were unquestioned rulers of the line-dancing craze in the 1990s. Tim DuBois' idea led to the formation of the pair in 1990. Both members were solo recording artists prior to the founding. Brooks also released an album for Capitol Records in 1989 and wrote hit tracks for other singers, while both members charted two solo singles in the 1980s. The pair formed in 1991 and signed to Arista Nashville that same year. For the label, they've made eleven studio albums and five compilation albums. They've also published 50 singles, with 20 of them reaching #1 on the Hot Country Songs charts and 19 more reaching the Top 10. According to the Billboard Year-End rankings, My Maria (a cover of a B.W. Stevenson song) and Ain't Nothing 'bout You were the top country songs of 1996 and 2001, respectively. With a six-week run at the top, it's also the duo's longest-running #1 hit on that list. Several of their songs have also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, with Ain't Nothing 'bout You and Red Dirt Road reaching #25 and #25, respectively. With the exception of 2000, Brooks & Dunn won the Country Music Association Vocal Duo of the Year award every year from 1992 through 2006. Hard Working Man in 1994 and My Maria in 1996 both received Grammy Awards for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The Recording Industry Association of America has certified all but two of the duo's studio albums platinum or higher; their highest-certified album is their 1991 debut, Brand New Man, which was certified sextuple-platinum for shipments of six million copies. Although some of their music has been critiqued as formulaic, the duo's content is noted for combining influences of honky-tonk, mainstream country, and rock, as well as the difference between Brooks' and Dunn's singing styles and on-stage personas. Their track Boot Scootin' Boogie, released in 1992, helped re-popularize line dancing in the United States, and Only in America, released in 2001, was adopted by both George W. Bush and Barack Obama in their presidential campaigns. Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow, Mac Powell, Billy Gibbons, and Jerry Jeff Walker are among the performers with whom Brooks & Dunn has collaborated. They performed their farewell concert on September 2, 2010, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, after announcing their retirement in August 2009. As individual musicians, Brooks and Dunn have continued to record for Arista Nashville. Brooks released New to This Town in September 2012, while Dunn published a self-titled album in 2011 that contained the Top 10 country single Bleed Red. In 2015, the duet reunited for a series of concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada, alongside Reba McEntire. The pair was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2019.
