Brian Herzlinger Biography

Make it happen. That's what Steven Spielberg told Brian Herzlinger, a high school senior, in 1994. Those remarks stayed with Herzlinger: Three years later, he graduated from Ithaca College with a BS in Cinema & Photography, having written and directed The Film Contest, a short 16mm film that gained national acclaim. Herzlinger moved to Los Angeles and interned at DreamWorks and MGM before working as a Production Assistant on a variety of commercials and music videos. He then worked as a Producer's P.A. on the successful CBS medical drama Chicago Hope for two seasons. During that time, he developed and shot his second short, Malicious Intent, a 13-minute, 35mm silent drama that won an award. For three seasons, he worked as an assistant to Bill D'Elia, one of Ally McBeal's Executive Producers. During his time there, Brian directed the award-winning film Krutch, a 24P Hi-Def short that placed in the top 50 of HBO's Project Greenlight. Herzlinger then worked as the WB Network's Assistant Director for Promo Shoots, the Executive Producer of the Warner Bros./ABC pilot Gramercy Park, and the Producer of the ABC series Grey's Anatomy. Herzlinger's debut feature film as a filmmaker is My Date with Drew. He is presently working on a reality TV program based on the film, which he will host as well as executive produce. Herzlinger is also a journalist on Jay Leno's Tonight Show, where he serves as the independent filmmaker on staff. He also has a production business in Los Angeles that is working on a number of film and television projects.
