About Brett Keisel
Brett Keisel Biography
The Steelers selected Brett Keisel in the seventh round in 2002. He was a special teams player who has seven solo special teams tackles in five games and two postseason games. The Carolina game was one of the highlights of Keisel's first season. He recorded three solo special teams tackles and recovered a fumble on a punt that led to a Steelers touchdown. Keisel returned to the field in 2004 after missing a season due to injury, and he continued to play special teams while also seeing time on defense. He remained on special teams and was also listed as a backup defensive end. He produced one of the game's key plays in the Baltimore game, sacking quarterback Anthony Wright on third down on the Ravens' last drive. It was Keisel's first NFL sack. He returned one kickoff for 11 yards against the Bengals. Another first occurred for #99 during a game versus Cleveland. Keisel got two sacks and a forced fumble in the contest. He was making his presence known to both his coaches and his opponents. He saved his finest performance for the AFC Championship game in Denver, when he had four solo tackles and two sacks. In Wyoming, Keisel attended Greybull High School. He lettered four years in football and basketball. He also lettered in track twice. He was a four-time All-Conference pick as well as an All-State selection at tight end and linebacker. He was named Wyoming Player of the Year by USA Today, Sportslink Player of the Year, and Conference Player of the Year in high school. During his first year at BYU, Keisel wore a red shirt. He was a defensive end his sophomore year before transferring to Snow College the following year. He returned to BYU to complete his collegiate football career. Keisel recorded 66 tackles, 39 of which were solo, 9 quarterback sacks, and 19 stops below the line of scrimmage. During his collegiate career, Keisel won a slew of sports honors.
