About Bradley Dale Peveto

Bradley Dale Peveto Biography

Texas A&M's Linebackers Coach is Bradley Dale Peveto, a former collegiate head coach, and veteran SEC assistant coach. Peveto coached at the collegiate level for more than 30 years, including the last five years at the University of Kentucky, LSU, and Ole Miss, where he was a standout linebacker during his playing days at SMU. He has a national championship on his coaching resume and has coached at the collegiate level for more than 30 years. Peveto, a well-known recruiter, joins the Aggies after coaching the linebackers and special teams at Ole Miss for the 2017 season. Peveto joined the Ole Miss coaching staff after three seasons as a member of the LSU coaching staff (2014-16), his second stint with the Tigers after four seasons (2005-08). LSU went 59-19 in his seven seasons with the Tigers and won five bowl games, including the 2007 BCS national title. The Tigers scored 11 special teams scores and blocked six kicks during his six years as special teams coordinator at LSU. Peveto handled LSU's special teams in 2016 and also coached the defense's outside linebackers. His special team's defense was second in punt return defense and third in kick return defense in the SEC. He coached Tre'Davious White, a first-team All-American who ranked sixth in the SEC in punt return yards and was one of just four SEC players to return a punt for a score. Peveto was a key member of a scoring defense that ranked sixth in the country, allowing only 16.4 points per game. LSU's linebackers also helped the Tigers finish 14th in total defense (323.0 ypg). Both of these scores were third in the SEC. Kendall Beckwith, another first-team All-America selection, was coached by Peveto during the 2016 season. Peveto received an honorable mention for Scout.com Recruiter of the Year in the Southeastern Conference after assisting in the formation of LSU's 2016 recruiting class, which was ranked No. 6 nationally. In 2015, LSU had two of the most explosive return guys in the SEC, with White averaging 11.4 yards on punt returns and true freshman Derrius Guice averaging 23.6 yards on kickoff returns, both among the conference leaders. For the second year in a row, White returned a punt for a touchdown, while Guice had a 75-yard kickoff return that set up an LSU touchdown. Trent Domingue, the Tigers' first-year starter, made 13 of 17 field goals, while punter Jamie Keehn averaged 40.7 yards per punt to complete his career among the school's all-time punting leaders. On defense, Peveto managed a group of linebackers that were among the finest in the SEC, highlighted by Deion Jones, a nominee for the Butkus Award, and Beckwith. Jones was a second-round choice of the Falcons in the 2016 NFL Draft and led the Tigers with 100 tackles. LSU's special teams scored one touchdown in both the kickoff and punt return games in his first year back with the Tigers in 2014, while Keehn ranked second in the conference in punting with a 44.9 average. Peveto returned to Baton Rouge following a season as the University of Kentucky's special team's coordinator and safeties coach in 2013. Following the 2008 season, Peveto departed LSU to become the head coach at Northwestern State, where he went 14-30 in four seasons from 2009 to 2012. Peveto was a part of Les Miles' inaugural staff at LSU, joining the Tigers as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach in the spring of 2005. He held that role until being elevated to co-defensive coordinator in 2008. During Peveto's first three seasons with LSU, the Tigers went a total 42-11, winning the national championship in 2007 and winning at least 11 games three times. From 2005 to 2007, Peveto's linebacker growth was essential to LSU's defense ranking among the top five in the country for three years in a row. Ali Highsmith, a linebacker, was chosen first team All-America by CBSsports.com in 2007 and a second team All-American by the Associated Press. Peveto helped both his punter (Patrick Fisher) and placekicker (Colt David) achieve first-team All-SEC accolades in 2007 as LSU's special team's coordinator — a first in LSU football history. Peveto came to the Tigers following two years as the secondary coach at Middle Tennessee, where he was promoted to defensive coordinator/linebackers coach in 2004. Peveto was the co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach for the Houston Cougars from 1999 to 2002. Four players earned all-conference honors during his time in Houston, while three were named to Conference USA's all-freshman team. For three years (1996-98), Peveto was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Northwestern State, where he helped the Demons win back-to-back Southland Conference titles and NCAA I-AA playoff berths. During each of Peveto's three seasons at Northwestern State, his "Purple Swarm" defense was rated nationally in numerous statistical categories, and four of his players won All-America accolades. A total of four Demons were drafted into the NFL Draft. Northwestern State finished 11-3 in 1998, reaching the I-AA playoffs and finishing third nationally. Peveto served two seasons as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach on Danny Ford's staff at Arkansas, where he helped the Razorbacks capture the SEC Western Division championship and a place in the 1995 Carquest Bowl with an 8-5 overall record. In 1992 and 1993, Peveto coached the outside linebackers and special teams at Southern Miss. From 1988 through 1991, he also served as the special team's coordinator at Stephen F. Austin, where he coached the defensive line, linebackers, and secondary. The Lumberjacks won the Southland Conference and went on to win the I-AA title in 1989. Peveto began his coaching career as a secondary coach at Trinity Valley Community College after graduating from SMU in 1987. Peveto was a four-year letter winner for the Mustangs, appearing in three bowl games (Cotton, Sun, and Aloha), and serving as team captain in 1986. SMU won two Southwest Conference championships (1982 and 1984) and had a cumulative record of 43-14-1 during his playing career. Peveto, a native of Orangefield, Texas, comes from a long line of football coaches in his family. Ed, his father, was a high school football coach in southeast Texas who was elected into the Greater Houston Coaches Hall of Honor in 1993 and the Golden Triangle Coaches Hall of Fame in 1997. In Texas, two of his brothers were also high school coaches. Peveto is married to Melissa Weser, and the pair has two children: Payton Marie and Jacob Edward.
