Brad Barnes Biography

Brad Barnes, a New Haven native, has spent the last 26 years honing his culinary skills around the United States and Europe. He worked in a professional restaurant, hotel, catering, and country club kitchens for the first 25 years of his career. During his time with the company, he has gained a diverse variety of skills and competence in many aspects of the food service sector. Chef Barnes is one of America's 59 Certified Master Chefs and is well-versed in a number of cuisines. Mr. Barnes' employment career has also allowed him to be fully involved in all aspects of front-of-house operations, including leading wine, service, and bar operations in a number of locations. Brad also has a thorough understanding of accounting and financial operations in the food service industry. Mr. Barnes, who serves as the American Culinary Federation's National Certification Chairperson, has played a key role in modifying culinary certification requirements and rewriting the coveted Certified Master Chef Exam, which is conducted yearly at the Culinary Institute of America. Brad is a well-known Certified International Culinary Judge, appointed under the auspices of the World Association of Cooks Societies, and routinely teaches a variety of culinary topics to his colleagues. He has won several medals in national and international competitions and is presently an advisor for the ACF Culinary Team 2004. Most recently, Brad and his spouse Lisa Brefere co-authored a book that completely depicts the prospects open to anyone who want to make a life in the food sector. Brad is the founder of B&B Solutions, a Manhattan-based food, and beverage consulting organization that specializes in turn-around management for the hospitality sector as well as culinary-related instructional programs for several of the country's best culinary schools.
