Bonnie Tiburzi Caputo became the first female pilot to fly for a large U.S. airline when she joined American Airlines at the age of 24 in 1973. She was also the first woman in the world to acquire a Flight Engineer rating on a turbo-jet aircraft at the same time.
Bonnie started off as a charter pilot and flight instructor in the aviation industry. She flew the Boeing 727, Boeing 757, and Boeing 767 as a Captain. After 26 years of service with American Airlines, she retired in 1999, but her groundbreaking legacy continues to inspire us today.
