Bonner Paddock gets back up in a huge manner when he falls down. He's spent his life defying doctors' cautions, scraped knees, and fractured bones. He was also the first person diagnosed with cerebral palsy to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro at the age of 33. For an able-bodied guy, this would be a little accomplishment, but for Bonner, it was a huge task. He had overcome not just the mountain, but also his personal constraints, after eight days and 19,340 feet. Something wasn't quite right with Bonner when he was a toddler. He couldn't keep his balance since his left leg pulled behind his right. He received seven separate diagnoses from seven different physicians. Bonner was informed by a doctor that he'd be in a wheelchair by the age of 15 and that he might not live to be 20. He was in a variety of shoes, braces, and casts for a long period. But he continued on his way. He played goaltender instead of flanker to limit his movement. He practiced his three-point shot. When he whacked the ball into the outfield, he stood at home plate in a cast up to his hips and had someone run for him. Even though he didn't comprehend, he triumphed. He finally got a break when he was 11 years old. A doctor became interested in his situation and subjected him to a battery of tests. Bonner had cerebral palsy, according to him. That wasn't ideal news, but at least he understood what was wrong now. Bonner's umbilical cord coiled twice around his neck when he was born, depriving him of oxygen and causing a little section of his brain to die. That chord didn't kill his life, but it did alter it for the rest of his life. It put him at a disadvantage, but it also provided him with a reason to live. Bonner Paddock is the founder of the OM Foundation today. His historic trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro was filmed in the film Beyond Limits, and it helped generate funds for a new daycare center in Orange County that provides early treatment for children with all forms of physical challenges. Bonner, on the other hand, didn't stop there. Bonner pushed himself to new heights in 2012, when he completed the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, being the first person with cerebral palsy to do it. Bonner crossed the finish line after 16 1/2 hours and 140 miles of racing, raising almost $500,000 for special needs children.
