Due to optic nerve injury, Bobby Convey is partly blind in his left eye. Bobby was a part of the Bradenton Academy's first class, which includes Landon Donovan, Oguchi Onyewu, and DaMarcus Beasley, all of whom are currently members of the national team.
They worked together to help the Under-17 Team finish fourth in the 1999 World Cup in New Zealand. Convey rose to prominence after being recruited by Major League Soccer's D.C. United in 2000. He was the youngest player ever signed by Major League Soccer that year.
