Mayor Bob Foster is a well-known business and community figure who was elected as Long Beach's 27th mayor in June 2006. Foster was the president of Southern California Edison until 2006 when he retired after more than 20 years with the firm. Foster managed California's largest power business during the 1999 energy crisis as an Edison CEO.
Edison created the greatest renewable, clean energy initiatives (solar, geothermal, biomass, and wind) in the United States during Foster's tenure. Foster began his public service career as a worker for the California State Senate and the California Energy Commission, where he helped to set statewide energy efficiency requirements that are still in effect today.
