Bjarne Riis, sometimes known as The Eagle from Herning, is a former professional road cyclist from Denmark who won the 1996 Tour de France. He was the owner and then manager of Russian UCI WorldTeam Tinkoff-Saxo for many years. Other milestones of his career include winning the Amstel Gold Race in 1997, many Danish National Championships, and Giro d'Italia stage wins. He admitted to taking illegal drugs to win the Tour de France on May 25, 2007, and he was no longer declared the winner by the Tour's officials. The Tour reaffirmed his win in July 2008 but added an asterisk to underline his drug offenses.
