Billy Connolly, Scotland's most renowned comedian, had years of success in the United Kingdom before breaking into the American market and settling into a career as an excellent character actor. Connolly began his stand-up comedy career in Scotland and northern England, focusing on comedy but occasionally included folk tunes in his performance. Connolly's debut album, Live, was published in 1972. Cop Yer Whack for This, his follow-up album from 1974, was his biggest success ever, earning gold in the United Kingdom.
