Bill Tai Biography

Bill Tai has been a venture capitalist since 1991 and leads the west coast practice for Charles River Ventures (CRV). His portfolio of early stage projects spans web services communications systems and enabling technologies. He is also currently a board member at BitFury Group and Treasure Data.
In 2005 he was named by Forbes to their list of Top 100 dealmakers in Technology. He has been active in the China markets since the mid 1990s and was on the board of IMGo (HKSE 0067) - one of the first publicly traded venture funds to focus on mobile start ups in China. Mr. Tai represents CRV on the board of MAXTHON a China based browser company with over 150 million downloads to date as well as Wang You Media a China- based social network with over 10 million members.
He also serves on the board of start up technology companies in the US including Nantero Rosum Staccato Communications and publicly listed companies Microtune and Transmeta. In addition to his career in venture capital he is a sponsored professional athlete as a USA Team Rider for Cabrinha Kiteboarding. He holds a BSEE with Honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois as well as an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business.
