Bill Keller joined The New York Times Magazine and other parts of the newspaper as an op-ed columnist and senior writer in September 2001. He was formerly the newspaper's international editor from June 1995 to 1997, following which he served as managing editor from 1997 to September 2001.
From April 1992 to May 1995, he was the chief of The Times' Johannesburg bureau. From December 1986 until October 1991, he worked as a Times journalist in Moscow, the final three years as the newspaper's bureau head.
