In 1965, an American rock band known as Big Brother and the Holding Company was created in San Francisco as part of the same crazy music scene that produced the likes of Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Grateful Dead. Featuring Janis Joplin as their lead singer made them very popular.
Regarded as one of the best masterpieces of the crazy sound of San Francisco; Cheap Thrills their 1968 album reached number one on the Billboard charts, and in the Rolling Stone's the 500 greatest albums of all time, it ranked at number 338.
