Bertie Vogts is a manager and former German international football player. Vogts began playing football when he was seven years old when he joined the local sports club's boys' football squad. He was a right-side defender who acquired the moniker Der Terrier for his ferocity. Bertie made the move to Borussia Monchengladbach in 1965.
He won the Bundesliga five times, the German Cup once, and the UEFA Cup twice with this squad. Vogts stayed at Monchengladbach until 1979 when he chose to retire. He was also a member of the German World Cup-winning squad in 1974. He became a coach for Germany's under-20 national team after his playing career ended.
