Barbara Byrd-Bennett is a former chief executive officer of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the Cleveland Municipal School District, as well as a convicted criminal. From 1998 until 2006, she was the CEO of the Cleveland Public Schools. She was the academic and accountability officer for the Detroit Public Schools system from 2009 to 2011.
In April 2012, she was recruited as CPS's main education advisor, and six months later, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel nominated her CEO.
