About Axwell

Axwell Biography

Axwell (born Axel Hedfors on December 18, 1977, in Lund) is a Swedish DJ, remixer, record producer, and label owner. He is a member of the Swedish House Mafia, a three-person collective. DJ Magazine released the results of their annual Top 100 DJ Poll on October 27, 2010, and Axwell came in fourth, up to four places from the previous year. Feel The Vibe, Axwell's global smash from late 2004, was re-released in 2005 by the Ministry of Sound with additional vocals by Tara McDonald as Feel The Vibe ('Til The Morning Comes). Mambana, his partnership with Isabel Fructuoso, has also been a trailblazer (of Afro Medusa fame). They've been signed to Soulfuric Recordings since 2002 and have released three tunes. No Reason was their debut track, which topped the Hype/Buzz charts that summer and was played by many of the best DJs, including Little Louie Vega, Danny Rampling, and Ben Watt. Felicidad and Libre were the sequels. In 2003, Libre was released, and it was perhaps more successful than its predecessor. Libre was licensed to over 12 different regions and appeared on over half a million copies of compilation albums. Axwell is also accountable for Jetlag's So Right, which was released in September 2002 on Soulfuric and co-produced with Brian Tappert and featured Noel McKoy's vocals. Axwell returned to his roots in late 2002, producing a tune called Lead Guitar under his own name, which was released on fellow Swede Stonebridge's Stoney Boy imprint. Axwell recorded under the name Starbeach for London-based label suSU (the UK home of Masters At Work) in 2003. Get Naked was the title of the song, which featured D'Empress on vocals (from Mutiny). After that, he performed a cover of Evelyn Thomas' classic High Energy. Axwell's Wait A Minute, which included Nevada's vocals, was released on Soulfuric's sublabel Device in the autumn of 2003. This song was a club blockbuster, with Pete Tong, Junior Jack, Kid Creme, and David Guetta all lending their support. Between all of this, Axwell has been producing remixes for other artists, including Usher's Burn (BMG), Room 5's Make Luv (Positiva), Clipse & Faith Evans Ma's I Don't Love Her (RCA), Stonebridge's Put 'Em High (Hed Kandi), NER*D's single Maybe (Virgin), and more recently Hard-Hard Fi's To Beat, Deep Dish's Dreams, Pha He has created many club remixes as well as his original creations, in addition to a re-release of Feel The Vibe on Ministry Of Sound. Along with his own work, he worked Together with Swedish producer Axel Boman. Watch The Sunrise, featuring Steve Edwards (renowned for Cassius' The Sound Of Violence), was Axwell's most successful single of 2005. The song is charted in the UK Dance Singles Chart as well as the BBC Radio 1 Dance Chart. Axwell found time between his productions to start Axtone, his own record label. Under the Supermode moniker, Axwell and Steve Angello remixed Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy in the spring of 2006, resulting in Tell Me Why. It was distributed under the Data label. Later, he collaborated with Eric Prydz on the tunes 123 and 321, which he released under the moniker Axer. With his remix of Sunfreakz's dance-pop hit Counting Down the Days, Axwell ventured towards a New York house style. Axwell's mix, which was a mixture of cutting progressive-house noises and ethereal synths, neglected the vocals (sung by Andrea Britton). The mix was extensively included during the Israeli DJ Offer Nissim's performance at Roxy's farewell party in Manhattan in March 2007. In August 2007, Axwell collaborated with singer Max'C on the single I Found U, which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso performed as The Swedish House Mafia in the Main Room at Cream Amnesia on August 12, 2007, as part of Radio 1's Essential Mix Ibiza. The live performance garnered a lot of positive feedback. For Cyndi Lauper's 2008 album Bring Ya to the Brink, Axwell co-wrote and co-produced the song Rain on Me with her. He released a song in June 2008 that was initially created as a remix for David Guetta's every time We Touch. Guetta turned down the remix, but Axwell took the song's music and collaborated with Bob Sinclar, who brought in vocalist Ron Carroll, to produce What A Wonderful World. In August of the same year, Axwell released Open Your Heart, a collaboration with Dirty South (DJ), an Australian DJ and producer. At the same time, he remixed Adele's, Hometown Glory. The remix was published in two versions: the original mix, which had more vocals, and Remode, which was more club-oriented.
