Dr. Leijonhufvud was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and graduated from the University of Lund with a bachelor's degree. He received an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University after moving to the United States in 1960.
He joined the University of California at Los Angeles in 1964 and was promoted to Full Professor in 1971, serving as Chairman of the Economics Department. He founded the UCLA Center for Computable Economics in 1991 and served as its Director until 1997. Professor of Monetary Theory and Policy at the University of Trento, Italy, since 1995.
