Water protector Autumn Pelter, popularly called a water warrior is an internationally recognized advocate for clean water, a Anishinaabe-kwe and a member of the Wikwemikong First Nation. Peltier attended a ceremony at a reservation when she was 8 years old and spotted a sign warning that the water was toxic, according to the CBC.

Peltier says she had never experienced toxic water for she grew up on a freshwater island in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory in Canada and that memory of the toxic water sign stayed with her for a long time. Peltier is fighting for indigenous water rights and water conservation six years later at age 14.
