Speaker Auma Obama is the half-sister of President Barack Obama of the United States. Auma obtained her early schooling at a Nairobi girls' boarding school. After residing in Germany, she earned a Ph.D. in German Studies. She also studied film and television at the German Film and Television Academy.
Obama had a nonprofit named CARE International that he ran for a while. In 2010, she also became a member of the Jacobs Foundation. 'The Education of Auma Obama,' a documentary on Obama created by a former pupil, was released in 2011.
