In 2018, Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez was named the seventh president of Utah Valley University, making her the first female president of the university. Tuminez offers a diverse background in academics, charity, technology, and business to UVU.
Tuminez was born in an agricultural community in the Philippine province of Iloilo and relocated to the slums of Iloilo City with her parents and six siblings when she was two years old, her parents looking for better educational possibilities for their children.
