Ashish Nanda Biography

Ashish Nanda is a Harvard Business School professor. He was the Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, from 2013 to 2017. He was the Robert Braucher Professor of Practice at Harvard Law School for seven years before joining IIMA. Prior to that, he taught at Harvard Business School for 13 years. From 2013 to 2017, Nanda was a Fellow at Harvard Business School Executive Education and an Officiating Director at IIM Nagpur from its establishment in 2015 to 2017. He is a Harvard Law School Executive Education Distinguished Fellow. Professor Nanda resigned down as Director of IIMA in September 2017 and in October 2017 became a Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School's Strategy Unit. He is presently the chair of the Strategy teaching group of the MBA Required Curriculum at HBS. Nanda's research, teaching, and consulting work focuses on leadership and strategy, particularly in the context of professional services and higher education institutions. He has written case studies and papers on professional services in three areas: professional service organization management, professional labor markets, and professionalism. During his tenure as Director of IIMA, Nanda has published about and participated in conferences and task forces relating to higher education administration, notably that of Indian professional schools. Nanda is married to Shubha Nanda, who is a professor at Tufts Dental School in Boston. Pranav Nanda, the couple's son, is a Neurosurgery Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. Nanda enjoys reading and playing squash.
