In May 2001, Arthur Levitt joined The Carlyle Group as a Senior Advisor. He provides strategic business advice to Carlyle management. Mr. Levitt was the 25th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission before joining Carlyle. Chairman Levitt was first appointed by President Clinton in July 1993, and in May 1998, he was reappointed for a second five-year term.
He became the Commission's longest-serving Chairman in September 1999. In February 2001, he resigned from the Commission. Chairman Levitt prioritized investor protection. He fought to educate, empower, and protect America's investors throughout his time at the Commission.
