Ariel, who was born in 1987, grew up in Unalakleet, Alaska, following in her parents' footsteps. She was well-known in town for being a strong wrestler on her co-ed high school wrestling team! She participated in cross-country, just like her mother, and has run every day since May 2002.
One of her first recollections is of shooting her first caribou with her grandmother when she was nine years old. The gun's recoil was so powerful that she was left with a black eye. Ariel went to Chapman University in Southern California to study communications and fell in love with being warm.
