Ariel Ekblaw is an American aerospace architect and astronautical engineer known for her pioneering work in space architecture. She founded the MIT Space Exploration Initiative in 2016, leading a team of over 50 researchers to develop technologies for space exploration, including self-assembling habitats called TESSERAE (Tessellated Electromagnetic Space Structures for the Exploration of Reconfigurable, Adaptive Environments). She earned a B.S. in Physics, Mathematics, and Philosophy from Yale University, an M.S. in Distributed Systems, and a Ph.D. in Space Architecture from MIT.
Ekblaw is the CEO of Aurelia Institute, a nonprofit focused on space habitat R&D, and General Partner of Aurelia Foundry Fund. Her work, featured in WIRED, The Wall Street Journal, and CNN, includes projects flown on Blue Origin and the International Space Station. She serves on NASA’s Lunar Surface Innovation Consortium and is the author of “Into the Anthropocosmos” (2021).
