Ariane Daguin grew up in a world full of delicious cuisine. Andr Daguin, the chef-owner of the Hotel de France in Auch, Gascony, is well-known throughout France for his foie gras and other Gascon delicacies. Ariane chose to pursue an academic degree at Columbia University rather than pursuing a profession in cuisine.
Ariane was in the right place at the right time when the chance to commercialize the first domestically produced foie gras presented itself while working part-time for a New York producer. In 1985, she pooled her financial resources and founded D'Artagnan, the only game and foie gras seller in the United States at the time.
