Anne Murray, the only daughter of Dr. Carson and Marion Murray, was born on June 20, 1945 in the coal-mining hamlet of Springhill, Nova Scotia. She studied piano and singing, and her vocal performance of Ave Maria at graduation moved the audience to tears.
Anne went on to study physical education at the University of New Brunswick after graduating from high school. Bill Langstroth, the show's co-host and producer, requested her to join the cast of the popular Singlong Jubilee in 1966. Anne went on to teach for a year on Prince Edward Island before returning to sing with Singalong Jubilee for another summer.
