After that summer, Anne decided to give the music industry a go, telling herself that if it didn't work out, she could go back to teaching. WHAT ABOUT ME was Anne's debut solo album, followed by THIS WAY IS MY WAY, which gave Anne her first hit song.

Snowbird was the song, and it became the first gold record ever awarded to a Canadian female artist by an American music business. Soon after, Anne became a regular on The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour and appeared as a guest star on a number of the most popular shows of the time.

In 1975, Anne married her Singalong Jubilee co-host Bill Langstroth, and their first child, William, was born in 1976. Dawn, Anne's daughter, was born three years later, in 1979. Anne has recorded several television specials and earned nearly too many musical accolades to name in a career spanning 36 years and 34 albums.

Among these are four Grammy nominations for vocal performances on the songs Love Song, You Needed Me, Could I Have This Dance, and A Little Good News. She has also won three American Music Awards, three Country Music Awards, and 31 Juno Awards, a record-breaking amount that has led to jokes that the Junos should be renamed the Annie Awards.

Anne has been inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and the Juno Hall of Fame, as well as receiving the highest civilian award given upon a Canadian - Companion of the Order of Canada. She has a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Canadian Walk of Fame.

Murray has also been designated as an Honorary Canadian Tourism Ambassador and has been awarded the Order of Nova Scotia. In 1989, Anne Murray assisted in the establishment of the Anne Murray Centre in her hometown of Springhill, Nova Scotia.

The Centre attracts people from all over the world and has significantly boosted the income of the little village from where she is originally from. Anne likes to watch hockey and play golf. She once stated that if she hadn't become a singer, she would have preferred to be a professional golfer.

Though she has scaled back on the enormous tours she used to do, she still travels on a monthly basis, typically around the holidays. Fortunately, she has no intentions to retire anytime soon.
