Anne Lamott is an American novelist, memoirist, and nonfiction writer known for her works that explore themes of faith, addiction, motherhood, and human imperfection. Her breakthrough memoir, “Operating Instructions” (1993), chronicles her experience as a single mother, while “Bird by Bird” (1994) is a beloved guide to writing and creativity.
Other notable books include “Traveling Mercies” (1999), “Plan B’ (2005), and “Somehow: Thoughts on Love’ (2024), her 20th book. A former alcoholic, she writes openly about recovery and spirituality. She has taught at UC Davis and writing workshops nationwide, receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship and induction into the California Hall of Fame (2010).
