Ann M. Veneman was appointed UNICEF's sixth Executive Director on May 1, 2005. The Executive Director is appointed by the United Nations Secretary General to work on behalf of the United Nations Children's Agency to assist children across the globe survive and flourish by fighting for and defending their rights.
