Anela was born near the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Always intellectually curious, she began researching new systems of biofuel production using waste materials at a young age, with hopes of helping the people of her country as they worked through post-war economic development. The challenges and prejudices she faced as a young female researcher with limited resources inspired her interest in addressing social inequities. At Dartmouth, Anela is excited to continue her research and study biochemistry with talented faculty at the Thayer School of Engineering. She will also continue with her love of music as a flutist in the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra.
