His performance in the film earned him Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor. He has since made his directorial debut in "CineSons CachaoComo Su Ritmo No Hay Dos" ("Like His Rhythm There is No Other"), a feature-length documentary concert film about the co-creator of the Mambo.
