Dr. Kruse brings expertise in the structure, function, and pharmacology of transmembrane signaling proteins with essential roles in human health and disease. He determined molecular structures of two distinct acetylcholine receptors and pioneered the use of in silico docking for the development of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) subtype-selective modulators.
In other work, he determined the molecular basis for allosteric modulation of GPCR signaling by drug-like small molecules, paving the way for the use of crystal structures in the development of this emerging class of therapeutics.
