Heyward was executive producer of CBS Evening News and Vice President of CBS News prior to becoming President (October 1994-January 1996). Heyward was also in charge of creating and producing 48 Hours, a primetime CBS News program that debuted in January 1988. He has 12 national Emmy Awards to his name. Heyward was born in the United States, in the city of New York. With a B.A. in history and literature from Harvard University, he graduated magna cum laude.
