Ms. Lopes founded Saralex Communications in 1995, focusing on promotion, marketing, event management, and fundraising operations to assist businesses with digital economy repositioning initiatives. She has held prominent roles in the Ontario government and the City of Toronto, including serving as Premier Bob Rae's executive assistant from 1992 to 1995. Ms.
Lopes is a prominent member of the Portuguese Canadian community, having developed ABRIGO, a crisis counseling service, and a refuge for non-English speaking women. With her husband Don Tapscott, Ms. Lopes helped create the Shirley A. Brown Memorial Chair in Women's Mental Health Research and the Tapscott Chair in Schizophrenia Studies at the University of Toronto.
