Alison Mariella Désir is an American author, activist, endurance athlete, and mental health advocate focused on racial equity, community, and movement. Born in Harlem to Haitian and Colombian immigrant parents, she discovered running as a tool to manage depression, founding Harlem Run in 2013 to create inclusive spaces for BIPOC runners.

She created Run 4 All Women, raising funds for Planned Parenthood and Black Voters Matter, and co-chaired the Running Industry Diversity Coalition. Her acclaimed book “Running While Black” (2022) explores racism in running and became a bestseller. Désir hosts and produces the Emmy-nominated PBS series “Out & Back,” which examines outdoor access and history, along with a companion podcast.
