Admiral Mike Mullen was the Joint Chiefs of Staff's 17th Chairman (2007-2011). He served as the chief military adviser to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as two Defense Secretaries. He oversaw the conclusion of the combat operation in Iraq and the formulation of a new military plan for Afghanistan during a critical moment of change.
He pushed for the fast development and deployment of novel technology, championed developing and long-lasting international alliances, and promoted new terrorism-fighting tactics, all of which led to Osama bin Laden's death. He was the driving force for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
