Allen was conceived in Los Angeles, California, the child of resigned U.S. Coast Guard chief damage control man and World War II veteran Clyde and Mrs. Wilma Allen. Thad William Allen (brought into the world 16 January 1949) is a previous United States Coast Guard chief naval officer who filled in as the 23rd Commandant of the Coast Guard.
Allen is most popular for his broadly commended presentation guiding the government reaction to typhoons Katrina and Rita in the Gulf Coast area from September 2005 to January 2006 and for his function as National Incident Commander of the Unified Command for the Deepwater Horizon oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.
