Adam Barnes joined The Economist online in June 2005 as deputy news editor. Gulliver, the site's business-travel blog, was founded in 2008, and he edited it for five years. He was also a deputy home-page editor and supervised The Economist's online version at the time. In 2014, he was promoted to deputy editor of the Books and Arts section.

He relocated to Mexico City in 2015 to work as The Economist's Mexico correspondent. Mr. Barnes worked as a sports journalist, a guidebook writer, and a freelance travel editor before joining the firm. Time Out Guides, The Times, The Independent, Greenwood Guides, and How-To Books have all published his work.
