From 1982 to 1995, he was at McKinsey assisting in building their practice in Russia and East Europe; from 1995 to 2000, he was the Director General of the CBI (Confederation of British Industry); and he became Vice-Chairman of Merrill Lynch Europe from 2000 to 2006 and has held the position of Non-Executive Director at a number of companies, Standard Chartered inclusive.

He was appointed as Chairman of CHUBB Europe, he is a Non-Executive Director at Prudential, and an advisor to the Board of UK start-up bank OakNorth. He is also a Trustee of the British Museum and chairs the Energy Transitions Commission and since 2005, he has been a cross-bench member of the House of Lords.

From 2002 to 2006, he chaired the Low Pay Commission; from 2003 to 2006, he chaired the Pensions Commission and from 2008 to 2012, he served as the first Chairman of the Climate Change Committee. In 2015, Princeton published his book Between Debt and the Devil it was translated into Chinese.

He’s authored other publications such as “Economics After the Crisis” and “Just Capital-The Liberal Economy.” He is a visiting professor at Cass Business School and the London School of Economics.

At Tsinghua University in Beijing and the People’s Bank of China School of Finance, Turner was appointed Visiting Fellow and at the International Center for Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Kuala Lumpur, he was appointed Visiting Professor. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Financial Studies in Frankfurt.

In 2016, he was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society.
