Con Artist's Compelling Comeback Story Set to Captivate Californian Community

If you’ve watched the 2002 Steven Spielberg “Catch Me If You Can”, you’ve undoubtedly heard the story of the brazen con artist that is Frank Abagnale. Best known for his audacious impersonations and check fraud schemes in the 1960s, he began his career in crime as a teenager, forging checks worth millions, impersonating a Pan Am pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer, and cashing fraudulent checks across 26 countries before his arrest at age 21. His charisma and ingenuity enabled him to exploit vulnerabilities in the primitive banking and identification systems of the time.

Now a respected authority on fraud detection and cybersecurity for the FBI, he has been invited to speak at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California, on September 30th.

After serving time in prison, Abagnale transformed his life, working with the FBI and founding Abagnale & Associates, a consultancy specializing in fraud prevention. He has advised banks, corporations, and law enforcement for over four decades, helping develop anti-fraud measures.

As part of the speaking series, Costa Senior Legal Services, which offers free legal help to Contra Costa County residents aged 60 and older, will provide advice focusing on housing issues, financial security, and protecting seniors from physical and emotional abuse, as well as how to circumvent financial exploitation.
