Child Safety Advocate Elizabeth Smart to Headline Women's Conference
Elizabeth Smart's abduction story gripped the nation. She has been able to courageously step out of that spotlight and use her platform to advocate for child safety. Smart will be talking about her work as the headline speaker at Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium's Reclaim Own and Renew Women's Conference. This first event will be held at the Centennial Hall Convention Center January 11-12. Some of the topics that will be addressed include self-image and self-image, work-life balance and nutrition and exercise. The early bird rate is $69 until December 31 and $79 after that. Smart was a 14-year-old girl that was abducted from her Salt Lake City home in 2002 and found nine months later. She now lobbies law enforcement and government agencies throughout the world about child safety laws. Smart and other survivors worked with the U.S. Justice Department to make a survivors guide. She has promoted important initiatives like The National AMBER Alert and The Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act through The Elizabeth Smart Foundation. Smart is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, "My Story." She is a graduate of Brigham Young University.
