Amanda Nguyen Biography

Amanda Nguyen is the president and founder of Rise, a millennial driven national civil rights nonprofit working with multiple state legislatures and the U.S. Congress to implement a Sexual Assault Survivor Bill of Rights.

In her capacity for Rise, she has drafted and helped introduce legislation in multiple Statehouses and the United States Congress. The national bill drafted by Nguyen was titled, Sexual Assault Survivors’ Rights Act. The bill was passed unanimously in both chambers of Congress and was signed into law in October 2016 by President Barack Obama. The law protects, among other rights, the right to have the evidence of a rape kit preserved without charge for the duration of the statute of limitations.

Before working full time at Rise, Ngyuen also was a 2016 TED fellow and served as Deputy White House Liaison for the U.S. Department of State. Prior to her position at the State Department, Nguyen was a Harvard-Smithsonian Astrophysics Fellow.

During her time at Harvard University, Nguyen held prestigious internships at Morgan Stanley, the White House, NASA, and the Harvard Law School Project on Women's Rights. As well, as a student, Nguyen created the first student-written course in Harvard’s history and co-founded Wema Children, an orphanage in Kenya.

Currently, Nguyen is training to become an astronaut.
